AAPE by Bathing Ape Spring/Summer 2013 Lookbook
A Bathing Ape clothing sticks to its roots this season for its lower priced AAPE Spring/Summer 2013 diffusion line. Its skate inspired sportswear feature plenty of graphic tees, camo, and plaid camp shirts. Its targets a younger audience, and that is clearly seen in its urban feel and bold colors. The company’s recent DC Shoes collaboration also highlights the brand’s goal of appealing to the young urban male.
This look is one of the best examples of AAPE aesthetic. The graphic tee layered with the blue and red plaid camp shirt is both energetic and easy. The look is not discriminatory or threatening. It could easily be thrown on, and it appeals to those who like skate inspired design.
Something that cannot be missed from Bathing Ape is camo and there is plenty of camouflage in this current collection. It gives the AAPE customer a sense of authority and anarchy at the same time. Pairing camo with a skateboard, an anorak hoodie, and a snap-back make the look even more ironic. Skate style is all about breaking free from the mainstream look. However, the camouflage makes it a little more orderly and structured. The army details and the laid back skater look bring together an ideal that is appealing to a younger audience that likes to be on trend without trying to hard.
It is easy to see that the ultimate goal of Bathing Ape’s diffusion line is to create a balance between forward thinking male fashion and simple laid back design. It will be interesting to watch how future collections take shape.
