New Air Jordan 9 Retro “Birmingham Barons” 45 Sneakers Release Date 2014
Michael Jordan fans may remember his short break from basketball back in 1993. It was his father’s dream to see him play big league baseball, so he put basketball aside and shocked the whole world.
In February 1994, Michael Jordan signed with the Birmingham Barons, an AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. He realized his true passion was in basketball and returned to the NBA in March 1995. Twenty years later, Jordan Brand decided to pay tribute to Michael Jordan’s brief baseball career with the Air Jordan 9 “Birmingham Barons” sneakers.
The first model of the Air Jordan 9 was released in 1993 and was designed by Tinker Hatfield. The design was influenced by Japanese culture. The back of the heel features a “Rising Sun” with the Jumpman logo. A signature feature of the shoes is the sole which shows different languages around the world representing Michael Jordan as a global superstar.
The AJ9 was the shoe Michael Jordan wore during that season in cleats version. The Air Jordan 9 “Barons” sports the Birmingham Barons’ team colors. It features a white leather upper with a grey mudguard and touches of black on the midsole, laces, and tongue. The inner lining features pinstripe details and an embroidered number “45” on the heel, the number of Michael Jordan from his baseball career.
