The Season of Rappers and Their Signature Sneakers


Not often will you see collaborations, other than super athletes who get their own signature shoes, from big sneaker companies. In the urban fashion scene, sneakers are a staple and part of the lifestyle. Big sneaker companies like Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Vans and many more, see the influence many artists have when representing their brands. Of course, companies want to get a piece of the pie and create more special editions. Not everyone will get a chance to work together on special projects. Artists who collaborate with these companies have a strong sense of style and are strong influencers.

This time there are a lot of upcoming collaborations between different shoe companies and the hottest rappers of today. We’ll break down 5 sneakers you can expect to see this season.

1. Adidas Originals x Jeremy Scott x A$AP Rocky JS WINGS 2.0 BLACK FLAG

Adidas just announced some great news for Jeremy Scott and A$AP Rocky fans. The two will work together on a special sneaker project, the Adidas Originals x Jeremy Scott x A$AP Rocky JS WINGS 2.0 BLACK FLAG.

The new Adidas sneaker come in an all black colorway with black stars throughout the upper and on the sneakers’ signature wings. Jeremy Scott got his inspiration from A$AP Rocky’s album cover “Long.Live.A$AP”, which featured an American flag in black and white.

The Adidas Originals x Jeremy Scott x A$AP Rocky sneakers will be coming soon, so stay tuned for more info.

2. Adidas Originals x Big Sean Pro Model II

Big Sean, the rapper from Detroit, has been one of the frontrunners when it comes to style. In 2012, Big Sean and Adidas worked together on a sneaker collaboration. Recently Adidas dropped the second release, with the classic Adidas Pro Model II.

The sneaker features an all black color made of Italian leather with snakeskin on the upper. It also has gunmetal hardware, like the logos, lace tips and lace jewel throughout.

It’s sold out on the Adidas online store, but check your local Adidas retailer.

3. Converse Chuck Taylor All Star x Wiz Khalifa Collection

Another classic sneaker is the Converse Chuck Taylor. Rapper Wiz Khalifa from Pittsburgh, has teamed up with Converse to release an entire collection of 12 new styles. It’s Wiz’s first ever footwear collection and sports his radical and fashion leading style.

The new Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Wiz Khalifa collection will be available at select Foot Locker stores (, Footaction stores (, and Converse retail stores ( beginning August 23, 2013 for $60 – $85USD.

4. Vans Syndicate x Ice-T Collection SK8-HI and Chukka Decon “Rhyme Pack”

Vans is going oldskool. They brought in the true O.G. West Coast gangster rapper Ice-T, to work on a special capsule collection. The collection consists of sneakers, T-shirts and a cap.

The Vans Syndicate x Ice-T sneakers consists of the Sk8-Hi in black and white and the Chukka Decon in grey. Both are pimp out in O.G. Ice-T style. The Sk8-Hi has “Rhyme” embroidered on the tongues, representing Ice-T’s debut album “Crime Pays” from 1987. The Chukka Decon has “OG” stitched on the back of the heel, paying homage to Ice-T’s “Original Gangster” album from 1991.

The Vans Syndicate x Ice-T sneakers and the rest of the collection will be available on September 15, 2013.

5. Nike Air Yeezy 2 “Red October”

Last but not least, Kanye West’s signature shoes, the majestic Air Yeezy 2 “Red October”. The third colorway of the much anticipated sneaker is rumored to release in October.

Kanye’s second signature shoe with Nike has been an instant hit, wanting fans for more. There’s no official release date yet on these flashy red kicks, but expect these to be very limited.

There you have it, collaborations with artists come and go. They bring a different style to the table and most of the time it’s done right. You may hate it or love it, but the special edition sneakers are great for the fans and hypebeasts.
